Newsletter's 2017

Welcome to the Spring 2017 edition of the BMAPS Newsletter.

The Chairman's Comments - Mick White

My thanks go out to all the Members of the Committee and Trish and the Community Payback boys for all their hard work over the past year, plus the few Members who have regularly come along to help. It is good to see that both Shadwell and TYM are fishing well and we will endeavour to make sure this continues. I was very disappointed to see so few Members at the AGM but hope attendance at meetings will improve this season.

Membership Secretary - Christine White

Enclosed with the Newsletter is your BMAPS Membership renewal/application form for completion. Membership runs from 8th June 2017 to 6th June 2018. When completing the form ensure you enclose your fee, the correct passport size photos (4), address, date of birth and car registration number. Disabled Members should include their Blue Badge details. Failure to complete the form correctly can cause a delay in issuing your Membership. Please return your forms and remittance by 17th May. The 2017/18 Membership cards will be available for collection at the meeting on Wednesday 7th June. If you are unable to attend this meeting and require the Membership card sent to your home address you must enclose a 6.25" x 9" stamped self-addressed envelope when returning your completed forms to the Membership Secretary. The new combination lock numbers in use from the 8th June will be printed on your Membership card as in previous years.

Guest Day Tickets at Shadwell - Christine White

Members Guest day tickets are available with a maximum of two guests per Member. Day ticket prices are £6 for Juniors, OAP and Disabled and all others £10 per day (evenings after 4pm are £5 and £3 respectively). As soon as a booking is made the Member is liable for payment of the Day Ticket cost. Please contact the Secretary (weekday tickets) or Membership Secretary (weekend tickets) giving 24hrs notice so a Bailiff can be arranged to collect the fee and issue a ticket to you/your Guest on the Lake. Guests must have a valid EA License.

Guest Night Tickets at Shadwell - John Curd

Member's Guest night fishing tickets will now be available on allocated dates (see later in Newsletter). These will be £10 per night, in addition to any day ticket that may be issued. Also Members will now be required to pay a refundable £10 booking fee to night fish the allocated dates. This has become necessary as some Members have booked places for these dates and not turned up to fish thus stopping others from taking part.

Non-Angling Visitors at Shadwell - Christine White

Non-angling guests/visitors are covered by our insurance but they must have a £5 annual visitor's permit which is available to Members over 16 years of age. The permit will be issued to a Member and is transferable between their visitors (only one person per session). Please apply for your permit when completing your Membership renewal forms.

Shadwell Car Park / Gate Keys - Christine White

The car park at Shadwell within the Barn Elms Sports Centre is free to use for BMAPS Members. Members must clearly display the car permit in their vehicle, which will be issued to new Members with their Membership cards. Failure to display the permit could result in a charge or your vehicle being clamped. Those wishing to use the car park early morning or late evenings will need a key for the Sports Centre Gate which are available at £4. OAP/Disabled Members are allowed to park their cars alongside the swims on the sports field. Please ensure you close and lock the Gate after use. Members can use the Sports Centre toilets and café.

Shadwell Swims - Bob Glover

Swims 18 and 19 are now re-opened as work on the unsafe tree has finally been completed. More of the Platform swims around the lake have now been removed and replaced by faced bankside edging, as preferred by the EA. The old Platforms were rotting and becoming unsafe.

Shadwell Memorial Bridge/Garden - Bob Glover

A new area with an entry via an archway (thanks to Charlie and RBG Kew) has been set up by the bridge which will be developed into a Memorial Garden. The plaques have been taken from the bridge to be cleaned before being installed on the new archway.

Thames Young Mariners (TYM) - Bob Glover

There are night and a limited number of day fishing opportunities at this venue which has three purpose built two angler swims, a single angler swim plus a beach. There are very strict access rules plus a cap on the number of anglers allowed on this water. Members wishing to fish this venue should contact the Secretary for the dates, tides, booking information and vehicle permits. It is hoped that work on the building of two more swims at this venue will take place during 2017/18. The pressure lock gates to the Thames are due for replacement in 2017 which may have an effect on angling for a few weeks.

Head Bailiffs Comments - Trevor Kelly

Members must ensure that they have their BMAPS Membership Card and EA Licence with them at all times when on club waters and comply with any Bailiff instructions when required.

The Kingfishers Club - Mick White & Steve Wimbledon

Any young Members, or even older ones, wanting to learn more about angling and water craft are invited to come along to the reformed Kingfishers Club. Further details can be obtained by contacting either the Chairman or Vice Chairman on the numbers in Annex I.

Vacancies for Bailiffs at Shadwell and TYM - Trevor Kelly

The Head Bailiff is looking for more Members to act as Bailiffs at these two venues. If you are interested then give him a phone call and he will explain what the position entails.
