Potomac Lake

Brief description of fishery

BMAPS acquired the fishing rights to the Potomac in 2019. It had been left derelict for a number of years and was seriously overgrown and in need of some TLC.

The Potomac can be dated back to the 1700’s. Originally a clay pit called “Cole’s Hole”, it was purchased by The Rothschild family in the 1800’s. They landscaped the area and transformed the old Kiln into the Gothic Folley that we see today.

The Potomac can reach approximately 24ft deep when the water levels are up. It is heavily stocked with plenty of carp. Mostly Commons averaging the 12-14lb mark. The lake also holds a good head of Pike, again rumoured to go to 20lb plus and having previously held the British second at a whopping 38lb 4oz!

The 2021/2022 Season saw us introduce approximately 40 plus carp taken from a reservoir in Barnes. There were various sizes running up to approx 23lb. A video of the day can be viewed by clicking here.

The 2022/2023 Season saw the Club introduce 5 Mirror Carp from the famous VS Fisheries, run by Simon Scott. The biggest being a stunning 31lb Mirror, two at 17lb and two at 15lb.

The 2023/2024 Season has seen the club introduce a brand new species to Gunnersbury! The lake is now home to 3 very large Catfish, the biggest being a 69lb Monster!!
